Maithil Community

We are a part of the Panch-gauda, a group of the highest-ranking castes among Brahmins, who strive to follow rites and rituals according to ancient Hindu traditions. Most of us live in and around Mithila in Bihar and a few districts of South-east Bihar up to Godda and Deoghar in Jharkhand plus adjoining Terai regions of Nepal. We are further divided into four divisions: Srotiya, Yogya or Joga, Panjibaddha (Painj in Maithili) and Jayawara or Jaibar.
